The Philadelphia natives and Archbishop Ryan graduates are thrilled to announce the opening of their second Santucci's Original Square Pizza location in Rio Grande, New Jersey—a celebratory milestone that reflects both their entrepreneurial spirit and deep connection to Cape May County. From Wildwood Success to Rio Grande Expansion

After five successful years operating their first Santucci's franchise in Wildwood, the Burkes are ready to share their authentic square pizza with neighboring communities. For Jimmy, the decision to expand into Rio Grande wasn't just about business growth—it was personal.

"I decided to open a second location because I felt comfortable with our success in Wildwood and wanted to extend the brand into the next neighboring town," Jimmy explains. "Over the years of living in North Wildwood, I met a lot of good families from Rio Grande, Lower Township, and Middle Township. I knew that we had to meet the demand of neighboring towns!"

The new Rio Grande location will bring Santucci's signature square pizza, savory strombolis, and family-friendly atmosphere to an area hungry for quality fast-casual dining options. 

A Family Affair

Behind every successful restaurant franchisee is a supportive family, and the Burkes are no exception. Jimmy credits his wife Erica and their three children—Jimmy (8), Valerie (7), and Anthony (2)—as the foundation of everything they've built.

"My amazing family is the core reason for our growth," Jimmy says. "They support me, and in return, the businesses support us all. It's a beautiful cycle that keeps us motivated every single day. It's truly a lesson in the adage you reap what you sow."

Balancing the demands of operating not one but two quick-service restaurants with raising young children requires sacrifice and dedication. "There are family gatherings we miss and holidays we work through," Jimmy admits. "But once you find good employees, you're able to step away and make up for that time with family and friends. That's the goal—building something sustainable that gives us freedom, and then (down the road) passing it on to the next generation!"

The Franchisee Journey: Hard Work Meets Reward

For aspiring restaurant entrepreneurs wondering if franchise ownership is right for them, Jimmy offers straightforward advice rooted in experience, fueled by grit,, and a daily commitment to excellence.

"Expect to work really hard," he emphasizes. "Be ready to sacrifice a night out with friends and some holiday gatherings, especially in the beginning. But if you stay committed and build a strong team, the rewards are worth it."

What are those rewards? For Jimmy, they're clear: "Financial freedom and being my own boss. There's nothing quite like it. I truly love getting up in the morning, but that being said, what really helps (day to day and year to year) is the strong support that Santucci's Corporate Franchising Team provides."

The quick service restaurant industry presents unique challenges—from managing inventory and staffing to maintaining consistent quality during peak tourism season in shore towns. Yet Jimmy has proven himself more than capable of navigating these obstacles while maintaining the high standards Santucci's is known for.

Looking Ahead

While the Rio Grande opening has Jimmy's full attention right now, he's already thinking about the future.

"A third Santucci's location is on my mind," he reveals, "but Rio Grande has my full attention at the moment. We want to do this right and serve this community the way they deserve."

When he's not perfecting pizza recipes or training staff, Jimmy dedicates his time to what matters most. "In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family and friends," he shares. "I have young kids who are active in multiple sports. As they say, they're only young once, so I'm dedicating my free time to my children."

From Northeast Philly to the Jersey Shore

The Burkes' journey from their roots in far northeast Philadelphia to becoming successful multi-unit owners in South Jersey is a testament to hard work, family values, and community stewardship. After five years of calling North Wildwood home, they've woven themselves into the fabric of Cape May County—and with the Rio Grande location, that connection only deepens.
